Public Outcry Grows Over Arrest of Arunachal Anti-Drug Activist

Itanagar: A wave of public support is building across Arunachal Pradesh for Gumin Mize, the president of the Arunachal Pradesh Anti-Drugs Warriors, following his recent arrest by Assam police. Mize was taken into custody in Itanagar earlier this month in connection with a case filed at the Bihpuria Police Station. Authorities have charged him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act, citing an incident involving the alleged unlawful use of firearms in Bihpuria.

Mize is well known for his grassroots efforts to combat substance abuse. He has spent years identifying drug peddlers and assisting families in Itanagar, East Siang, and other districts. His supporters and legal team argue that the charges are unfounded, maintaining that the shots fired were from legally owned ammunition used strictly for self-defense during a confrontation.

Many in the region believe Mize was targeted because his anti-narcotics work threatened powerful drug syndicates. Social activist Amma Bagbi described the arrest as an unfortunate development linked to the influence of organized drug networks. She noted that the activist's office is a frequent refuge for parents seeking rehabilitation support for their children.

As the legal case continues, youth groups and civil society organizations are demanding a transparent investigation and the immediate release of Mize. Supporters insist that his significant contributions to public welfare should be a primary consideration as the judicial process moves forward.
