Protests Ignite in Assam Following Death of Assault Victim

Guwahati: Protests resumed at Gangabari in Makum, Assam, on June 16 following the death of Mukut Orang. Demonstrators gathered under the banners of the All Tea Students Association and the Adivasi Students Association of Assam to block roads and demand justice for the victim, who succumbed to his injuries while receiving care at Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh.

The unrest stems from an alleged assault on Friday involving Imran Siddiqui, the owner of a restaurant known as Urban Tasty. Public anger intensified after reports surfaced that the accused failed to provide financial support for the victim's medical treatment. In response to the growing demonstrations and mounting pressure, police arrested Siddiqui and sealed his business establishment.

Following the death of the victim, organizers escalated their demands, calling for capital punishment for the accused and immediate one-time financial assistance for the family. Reflecting the local mood, protestors expressed deep frustration over the incident. Security agencies are monitoring the area to maintain order as tensions remain high in the locality.
