Protests Erupt at RIMS Hospital Following Kangpokpi Firing Incident

Imphal: A tense standoff developed at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Manipur after three people from the Kuki community were admitted for treatment. The individuals were transported to the facility following a June 15 gunfight near Leilon Vaiphei and Konsakhul villages in Kangpokpi district.

Crowds gathered at the hospital entrance to express their opposition to the treatment of the injured, eventually breaching the gates despite a heavy police presence. Protesters questioned the circumstances surrounding the admission and alleged that the violence involved competing Kuki factions.

T.P. Dining, a leader from the All Naga Students' Association, publicly challenged the Indian security forces for escorting the injured to the hospital. He claimed that the clash involved Kuki militant groups and suggested a deeper conspiracy between state and central authorities. "Claiming that the clash was between Kuki militant factions, Dining questioned why security personnel had allegedly facilitated transportation and protection for those he described as militants."

Dining also raised grievances regarding the recent deaths of six Naga civilians, which he attributed to Kuki militants. While security measures were significantly increased around the RIMS campus to prevent further escalation, hospital and government officials have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the situation.
