President Droupadi Murmu Plants Rhododendron Sapling in Gangtok

Gangtok: President Droupadi Murmu planted a Rhododendron arboreum sapling, locally called Lali Gurans, at the Lok Bhawan premises in Gangtok on Thursday. This ceremonial act served as a highlight of her official visit to Sikkim, focusing on environmental conservation and the importance of sustainable living.

The initiative showcased the state's deep commitment to protecting the ecological heritage of the Himalayan region. Lali Gurans is a signature flowering tree of the area, known for its vibrant red blossoms and its vital role in the biodiversity of the Eastern Himalayas.

Governor Om Prakash Mathur and several high-ranking state officials attended the event. Other participants included Dr. Pradeep Kumar, the Secretary-cum-PCCF of the Forest and Environment Department, along with local district administration and security personnel.
