Shillong: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Manikya Debbarma believes political maneuvering is insufficient to address the deep-rooted challenges facing Northeast India. Speaking at the North East India Infrastructure Summit 2026 in Shillong, he argued that the region must prioritize economic growth, job creation, and quality education to secure a stable future.
Debbarma cautioned against the tendency to place excessive focus on political parties, which he suggests often prioritize their own preservation over the actual needs of the community. Instead, he advocates for a development model that champions the protection of indigenous linguistic and cultural identities.
Addressing the limitations of political leadership, he stated, "Politicians and politics alone will not be able to solve your problem." He noted that India is shifting toward a model where citizens and institutions drive development more effectively than political figures alone. By balancing economic advancement with cultural preservation, Debbarma argues the region can ensure sustainable progress that benefits future generations regardless of shifting political tides.
