Police Patrol Car Crashes Into Parked Vehicle Amid Intoxication Claims

Guwahati: A police patrol vehicle smashed into a parked car and an electric pole early June 23. The 3 a.m. collision caused a massive noise that residents first mistook for a transformer explosion. The Bolero patrol vehicle pushed a car nearly 200 metres, snapping a utility pole in two.

Lawyer Tuhina Sharma, the owner of the damaged car, witnessed the wreckage. She claims the police vehicle first struck a motorcycle and shoved it into a nearby home before hitting her car. Two officers were in the Bolero at the time. They claimed they were chasing two suspected thieves, but the scene told a different story.

Sharma flagged multiple red flags regarding the officers. She alleges the driver could not show a license and that the vehicle lacked valid paperwork. Her suspicions went further. Sharma stated: "The personnel present could not satisfactorily explain the circumstances leading to the accident."

The lawyer also questioned the sobriety of the crew. She noted the behavior of the officers seemed abnormal and demanded an impartial probe into whether they were intoxicated. Traffic police reached the site 30 minutes after the crash. Sharma is now seeking compensation and has notified the district Superintendent of Police. She wants a full inquiry into why the patrol car was undocumented and why the officers acted the way they did.
