Police hunt for suspect after eight-year-old girl assaulted in Assam

Guwahati: An eight-year-old girl remains in critical condition following a brutal assault in the Abhayapuri area of Assam’s Bongaigaon district. The attack has triggered widespread public outrage, leading to community-led demonstrations as residents demand swift justice for the victim.

Police have identified the primary suspect as a local resident named Moniruddin. He fled the scene immediately following the incident and currently remains at large. Law enforcement officials have deployed several teams to track him down and are working to maintain order in Abhayapuri as public anxiety grows.

Medical professionals report that the child is receiving intensive care. Local authorities confirmed they have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
