Kohima: A social media user known as @adiespoems triggered a firestorm after claiming to order Rs 67,000 worth of pizzas for Jantar Mantar protesters. The post went viral, drawing attention from national media outlets. The user solicited public donations via a QR code. Skepticism soon mounted online.
The account @cjpnagaland_2026 accused the user of faking transaction proofs with AI tools. They warned the public against donating to what they described as a potential scam. The account stated, "Using the ongoing Jantar Mantar protest, people's sympathy to solicit donations would amount to exploiting a public movement for personal financial gain."
The accused user first claimed they received 120 pizzas instead of the ordered 150. They blamed the controversy on people attacking their integrity before verifying the facts. However, the story shifted again. A subsequent statement admitted the shared receipt was not an actual bill. The user confessed they posted it only to encourage further support for the students.
Public donations totaled over Rs 12,000. The user claims they spent Rs 5,000 on biscuits for the students and promised to account for the remaining funds. They eventually deleted the fundraising post to stop the online spectacle. The user issued an apology to those who felt misled by the fabricated documentation.
