Phek Board Clears Development Schemes Amid Border Security Worries

Kohima: Nagaland Minister K G Kenye ordered local officials to step up their game. He wants better attendance at planning meetings. The Phek District Planning and Development Board met Wednesday at the Deputy Commissioner's office to hash out the future of the region. Kenye pushed for closer oversight as the district faces security threats from the Manipur border.

He told the board, "the government's policy of decentralising planning and development to the district level" demands active participation from all members. Security remains a top priority. Kenye instructed police and administrators to stay sharp due to the instability in neighboring Manipur.

The board officially approved the 2026-27 Local Area Development Programme schemes. Officials also tackled a controversial radar project in Pfutsero. Public pushback remains high. The board asked the local administration to file a report so the state government can decide the next move. In other business, the board cleared the path for the Dawn Library Welfare Society registration in Chozuba.

Horticulture experts stepped in to help cabbage farmers in the Razeba Range. Growers struggled to sell their crops recently. The department managed to move 100 bags of cabbage so far. Officials continue working to line up more buyers for the local harvest. The board also welcomed new Power Department member Er Chubatemsu Ao to the fold.
