Shillong: The Public Health Engineering Department opened online bidding for the second phase of the New Shillong Township Water Supply Scheme. This project carries an estimated price tag of 850.58 crore. Contractors have 36 months to finish the work. The department expects the winner to handle the survey, design, procurement, supply, testing, and commissioning.
They also mandated two years of maintenance for the winning firm. Officials structured this deal as an engineering, procurement, and construction contract. This represents a significant move after the state finished clearing 772 crore for the first phase of the water works.
The department previously adjusted Phase-I costs from 538.44 crore to 772.96 crore. They blamed technical and environmental design shifts for the price hike. Previous projects faced claims of offline bidding to a Hyderabad outfit called BAC Infratech Pvt. Ltd. The department shifted to an online process to handle this latest phase. Who will bag this Rs 850-crore project remains to be seen.
