Shillong: Construction on the Lailad-Nongmensong road stalled out. Bad weather stopped the job. Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek confirmed Saturday that work will restart once the rain stops and the dry season begins. The project remains unfinished because crews cannot lay bitumen in the wet.
Residents and students flagged the issue repeatedly. Commuters heading to NEIGRIHMS and New Shillong suffer through dust in the dry months and thick slush when it pours. Hek pressed the Chief Engineer of the PWD for answers regarding the site.
Hek noted the public outcry during his check of the site. "I have got the complaint from the students, I have got the complaint from the parents, I have got the complaint from so many people why that road has not been completed," he said. The legislator expects a quick finish once the weather turns.
