Shillong: Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek wants action. The senior BJP leader is pushing the state government to fix chronic flooding in Langkyrding Minghi. Muddy water and debris are ruining homes. This mess started with construction work on the Shillong Bypass road.
Hek fired off a letter to the Chief Engineer of the PWD for roads. He also leaned on Deputy Chief Minister Preston Tynsong, who oversees the PWD, and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, who runs Urban Affairs. They need to step in now. The Dorbar Shnong of Langkyrding Minghi provided the initial report on the damage.
Construction crews left piles of sand, soil, and debris lying around. Heavy rain washes that junk straight into a local stream. The stream bed is clogged and its capacity is shot. Water spills over into residential yards and houses whenever the clouds open up. Hek insists that officials inspect the site, clear the stream, and restore the water flow.
He wants better silt control and containment systems at the building site immediately. The MLA warned that road work cannot destroy natural drainage. "The matter required urgent attention given the continuing monsoon conditions," Hek stated. He is demanding these fixes before the next heavy downpour wrecks more property.
