Rilbong Marks 100 Years With Community Food Festival

Shillong: Rilbong residents gathered Saturday for a food festival marking the locality's 100-year history. The event served as a major stop in the ongoing Rilbong 100 Years celebrations, which run from 1926 to 2026 under the theme A Century of Community, Culture & Togetherness. Attendees enjoyed games, live music, and family-oriented activities.

Chefs faced off in seven distinct culinary categories. Nayanika, Jolan M Nongkoum, and Jayashree Dhar topped the chicken rankings, while Bimol Sutradhar took home a special prize. Judges awarded Azmeena Rani, Swapna Dey, and Sushit Kanti Choudhury in the mutton division. Mamata Ghosh, Mitali Ghosh, and Shatarupa Chakraborty won for their fish dishes. Shilpa Goenka, Pinky Agarwal, and Neha Rankwat dominated the vegetarian bracket.

Pork honors went to Bahdonbok Fernando Nongrum, Xavier Tariang, and Sushila Rai. Kalpana Choudhury, Krishna Paul, and Babli Das swept the dry fish category, while Sudipta Bhattacharjee, Mamta Nath, and Purabi Roy Choudhury placed in the kheer competition. Organizers also honored 82-year-old Uma Das as the oldest participant.

The event highlights the ties built over the last century. Organizers stated the festivities "seek to highlight Rilbong’s history and the community bonds built over the past 100 years." Neighbors filled the streets to celebrate their shared heritage and future.
