Guwahati: A 63-year-old patient from the Kokrajhar district recently found relief from cervical dystonia following a successful procedure at Peerless Hospital Guwahati. The neurological disorder causes involuntary muscle contractions that lead to painful neck twisting and abnormal posturing. On June 5, the patient received a customized botulinum toxin injection under the care of consultant neurologist Dr. Rajeshkumar V. Kurmi.

The treatment resulted in a significant reduction in pain and abnormal muscle movements, allowing the patient to return to his daily routines. Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that cause excessive muscle contractions. According to medical experts, it serves as a highly effective intervention for conditions including chronic migraines, post-stroke spasticity, and blepharospasm.

Regarding the advancement of local medical care, Dr. Kurmi stated, "Botulinum toxin therapy has revolutionized the treatment of many movement disorders. With proper patient selection and expert administration, it can significantly improve symptoms and restore quality of life."

Peerless Hospital CEO Dr. Gautam Kr Das noted that the case highlights the hospital's expanding capacity to provide specialized treatment within the Northeast region. By offering such advanced interventions locally, the facility aims to reduce the necessity for patients to travel long distances for complex neurological care.
