Guwahati: Opposition members stormed out of the Assam Assembly on Monday. They staged the walkout after Speaker Ranjeet Kumar Dass blocked three adjournment motions. The Budget Session started with a fight. Legislators from Congress, AIUDF, Raijor Dal, and TMC crowded the Well of the House.

The opposition wanted to talk about power cuts, falling school enrolment, and the alleged pushback of illegal immigrants. Leader of the Opposition Wajed Ali Choudhury claimed power outages are hurting residents. He said, "Uninterrupted electricity supply, as claimed by the government, was not being provided."

Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi pointed to federal data showing fewer students in government schools over four years. Meanwhile, AIUDF legislator Mazibur Rahman raised concerns about illegal immigrants being sent to Bangladesh. He specifically cited cases where Indian citizens were wrongly removed and asked about missing inmates from the Goalpara detention center.

Speaker Dass shut down the requests. He told the assembly the issues lacked the urgency required to pause scheduled business. He suggested other ways to bring these topics up during the session. The AIUDF motion failed because it missed a deadline. Protesters waved placards until marshals took them away. The opposition eventually returned to the chamber.
