Guwahati: The old Saraighat Bridge shuts down on July 13. It stays closed until September 15. Kamrup (Metro) District Commissioner Swapneel Paul confirmed the two-month closure on Tuesday to allow for extensive repair and structural strengthening work.

Railways officials requested the maintenance to secure the aging span. The decision arrived after meetings between district administrations and stakeholder agencies. Paul said the "two-month closure was finalised after detailed consultations with all stakeholder agencies."

Drivers must move to the new Saraighat Bridge. Traffic will flow across the newer span while crews fix the old one. Officials are now setting up traffic control measures to keep the commute moving and prevent massive backups for travelers between Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) districts.
