Guwahati: A fuel tanker overturned and plunged into a deep pond in the Rudrasagar area of Assam's Sivasagar district on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred at approximately 8 p.m. as the driver attempted to maneuver the vehicle out of the path of an oncoming bus. The tanker, which carried 12,000 liters of petrol and diesel, was traveling from Numaligarh toward an oil depot in Nazira at the time of the crash.
Local residents arrived quickly at the scene to rescue the driver and his assistant from the submerged vehicle. While the driver blamed the incident on the need to avoid the bus, reports suggest that poor road conditions played a significant role in the tanker veering off the highway. The pond where the vehicle landed is currently used for fish farming by a local self-help group, raising concerns about potential environmental damage and economic loss. Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident as they await further details.
