Itanagar: A long-time member of the banned NSCN-K (Angmai) militant group walked into the Longding office of the Superintendent of Police on Saturday. He surrendered to security forces, ending his nearly two-decade run with the insurgency. The man, 37-year-old Pongngoi Wangnowham, hails from Kamkah village and has been part of the outlawed organization since 2005.

Officials from the Arunachal Pradesh Police, the 24th Assam Rifles, and the local Intelligence Unit accepted his surrender. Superintendent of Police Dekio Gumja oversaw the event. It is a quiet victory. Security agencies have pushed hard to pull militants out of the bush and back into normal life.

Authorities described the move as part of a wider drive to maintain order in the border region. "Such efforts are aimed at strengthening peace, stability and normalcy in the region," officials noted. By laying down his weapons, Wangnowham becomes the latest insurgent to quit the fight as the state looks to stabilize the area.
