NPP Leader Ampareen Lyngdoh Warns Against Secretariat Protest Marches

Shillong: Senior National People’s Party leader Ampareen Lyngdoh has issued a stern warning against the proposed protest march and gherao of the Secretariat in Shillong. She argued that mobilizing ordinary citizens for confrontational demonstrations threatens law and order and risks disrupting social harmony.

Lyngdoh questioned the motives of political groups behind these calls, noting that elected representatives already hold the constitutional mandate to advocate for public grievances. She stressed that complex matters like the interstate boundary dispute with Assam require high-level negotiations rather than street protests. “The interstate boundary dispute cannot be settled by marching to the Secretariat. It requires discussions between Chief Ministers, government committees and the Union government,” she said.

The former minister expressed concern over the safety of citizens, particularly youth, during volatile political movements. Drawing comparisons to ongoing conflicts in Manipur, Bangladesh, and beyond, she urged parents to monitor their children to prevent them from becoming unintended victims of political instability. She warned that once social order breaks down, restoring normalcy becomes a significant challenge.

Lyngdoh also cautioned the public against being misled by political organizations that may exploit community frustrations for electoral gains. She encouraged voters to critically examine political claims, emphasizing that misleading the public is dangerous for the future of the state.
