Imphal: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Manipur Unit is pointing fingers at the Congress party for the state’s current turmoil. Party president Awangbow Newmai claims the conflict stems directly from the controversial Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement and previous district boundary shifts. He argues these moves backfired.
Newmai took aim at the Congress track record during a media briefing. He accused the opposition of having "opened Pandora's box" by creating new districts and signing agreements that failed to stop violence. He demanded to know if the SoO camps were actually meant to curb extortion or if they had simply become safe houses for criminals.
The NPF leader questioned the logic behind the district reorganisation. He specifically cited the bizarre decision to place Jiribam under Imphal East, a district located 230 km away. He challenged the Congress to admit whether these changes served real administrative needs or were just cynical electoral moves.
Newmai further alleged that Myanmar-based Kuki National Army members used the SoO camps as cover. He linked these systemic failures to a long history of ethnic violence in the region, noting that previous clashes claimed over 2,000 lives. He demanded justice for multiple attacks on civilians, including the killing of six Naga people at Leilon Vaiphei. He labeled that specific act as inhuman.
