Northeast States Sign Child Rights Pact in Tawang

Shillong: The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights recently traveled to Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. They joined the first North East Regional Convention on Child Rights. The two-day gathering ran from July 31 to August 1.

Arunachal Pradesh SCPCR hosted the event. It brought together state commission representatives from Sikkim and across the Northeast to tackle pressing issues. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu opened the convention. He set the stage for delegates to tighten regional cooperation on youth safety.

The meeting wrapped up with the formal adoption of the Tawang Declaration on Child Rights. Chairpersons from all participating commissions ratified the document. The pact mandates inter-state collaboration. It seeks to ensure children remain safeguarded and empowered throughout the region. Officials believe the agreement marks a shift in how these states handle youth welfare.
