Kohima: Noklak residents hit the streets on July 3 to beat the rainy season. The district administration and the District Disaster Management Authority teamed up to head off flood damage. It was a massive effort.
Government workers, students, and town council members joined forces to clear out clogged drains and culverts. Crews pulled out heaps of silt and hacked back overgrown vegetation. They wanted to stop water from backing up into the streets. The goal is simple: keep the town safe when the heavy rains hit.
Teams also looked for trouble spots across the town. They checked electric poles and marked trees that looked ready to snap in a storm. They cleaned school grounds and hauled away piles of trash.
According to the DIPR report, the work focused on efforts to "strengthen sanitation, improve drainage, and enhance public safety during the monsoon season." Local authorities expect the work to keep the town moving while the weather turns ugly.
