Kohima: A new Health and Wellness Centre officially opened in Chekiye on Saturday. Dr. Keveduyi Theyo, Mission Director of the National Health Mission in Nagaland, inaugurated the facility alongside local officials, community leaders, and residents.
The centre marks a strategic shift in regional medical policy. Instead of focusing solely on curative treatments, the facility will emphasize preventive and promotive care. Dr. Theyo explained that the new centre reflects a broader mission to ensure dignified medical access for the public. He noted, "The Health & Wellness Centre is more than just a building and represents a commitment to accessible and dignified healthcare for every citizen."
Services at the new site include screening for cancer and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child healthcare, and essential laboratory diagnostics. The centre will also offer immunizations and treatments for malaria and tuberculosis. Beyond clinical services, staff will provide mental health support, dietary counseling, and guidance on yoga and physical exercise to promote holistic wellness.
The infrastructure was made possible through local collaboration, as Chekiye Village Baptist Akukuhou donated the 6,090 square feet of land. The community further supported the project by funding the construction of the boundary fencing. Hukiye Yepthomi, Vice Chairman of the Chekiye Village Council, pledged the community's ongoing support to ensure the facility remains well-maintained and effective for residents.
Dr. Theyo encouraged villagers to take ownership of the centre, emphasizing that its long-term success relies on active community participation and accurate performance reporting by the medical staff.
