New Frog Species Discovered in Nagaland Named After Late Researcher

Guwahati: Assam BJP MLA Ranoj Pegu celebrated the discovery of a new frog species found in Nagaland. The announcement came on May 29, following the work of researcher Bhaskar Saikia and his team from the Zoological Survey of India.

The frog has been officially named Amolops kamal to honor the late biodiversity expert Dr. Kamal Choudhury. Pegu noted that the naming serves as a tribute to the researcher for his extensive contributions to environmental and ecological studies across Assam and the Northeastern region.

Pegu praised the discovery as a testament to the diverse biological landscape of Northeast India. He added that the work of the research team highlights the vital dedication of those studying the area. According to the MLA, these scientific findings are essential for encouraging conservation and supporting future exploration of the region unique ecological heritage.
