New Bridge Slashes Travel Time in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein opened a motorable steel Bailey bridge over the Rima river on Tuesday. He performed the ceremony alongside Nampong-Jairampur MLA Laisam Simai in the Changlang district. It ends a decades-long struggle for residents in Sangwal Khamlang, Tikhak Khamlang, and Mossang Khamlang.

Locals relied on a hanging bridge for seventy years. People previously traveled 80 km through Jairampur and Jagun in Assam to reach Miao. The new span cuts that distance down to only 7 km. Commuters can now make the trip in roughly 15 minutes. Mein noted the bridge improves access to schools, hospitals, and local markets.

The project also boosts the Stilwell Road corridor and offers a better route to Namdapha National Park and Tiger Reserve. Mein stated, "The region had remained connected to the outside world through a hanging bridge for more than seven decades." Residents say the new link ends years of hardship and eases daily travel.
