Itanagar: A new daily market has opened in Holongi, a town in Arunachal Pradesh's Papum Pare district located on the border with Assam. The Higang Khu Daily Market was inaugurated on Tuesday by Balijan Additional Deputy Commissioner Takar Rava. The project, facilitated by the Higang Khu Society, provides a dedicated space for local tribal farmers and vendors to sell their fresh agricultural produce and goods.
Proprietor Tap Tapum Higang stated that the market is intended as a social service to improve livelihoods and foster stronger ties between the people of the two states. To encourage participation, organizers have waived the standard daily vendor fee for more than a week. Local vendors are encouraging residents from the Capital Complex to visit the site for fresh organic items rather than traveling to more distant towns.
During the opening, women vendors noted that the market offers a vital economic opportunity while building community connections. Commissioner Rava pledged administrative support for the market's future and encouraged all visitors and traders to keep the premises clean and hygienic. This initiative aligns with the national Vocal for Local campaign by providing a stable platform for regional commerce.
