Shillong: Nepal is actively working to fortify its diplomatic and economic relationships with India and China. Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal recently concluded a four-day visit to Beijing, stating that the Himalayan nation views both neighbors as essential partners for development.
Khanal emphasized that his recent diplomatic missions to New Delhi and Beijing demonstrate Nepal's intent to deepen existing ties rather than play one power against the other. He noted, "The government is committed to strengthening relations with both India and China, describing the two neighbours as vital partners for the Himalayan nation."
During his meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and other officials, Khanal discussed key areas of cooperation including trade, technology transfer, border management, and multilateral initiatives. Nepal also reaffirmed its adherence to the One-China policy, pledging that it will not permit its territory to be used for activities against Chinese interests.
Infrastructure development remains a central focus for the government. The two nations are moving forward with the Trans-Himalayan Multi-Dimensional Connectivity Network and a planned cross-border railway project. Nepal expects to receive a feasibility study from China later this month, which will serve as a framework for future collaborative efforts on transportation and border infrastructure.
