NEICC Welcomes Referral of FCRA Amendment Bill 2026 to Joint Parliamentary Committee

Shillong: The North East India Christian Council (NEICC) has warmly welcomed the decision of the Government of India to refer the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for detailed examination.

In a press release issued from its headquarters at Bivar Road, European Ward, Post Box – 102, Shillong – 793001, Meghalaya, the NEICC expressed sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, for listening to the concerns of the Christian community and other stakeholders, and for allowing the Bill to undergo further parliamentary scrutiny and consultation. The Council considers this an important and positive step in the democratic process.

The NEICC hopes that the JPC will examine the proposed amendments objectively and comprehensively, hear the views of affected stakeholders, and consider their practical implications before making its recommendations. The Christian community remains committed to transparency, accountability and compliance with the laws of the land, while also seeking a fair, proportionate and workable legal framework for institutions serving society.

The Council also placed on record its appreciation for the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad K. Sangma, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri Lalduhoma, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri Neiphiu Rio, for listening to the concerns of the people and personally taking them forward with the Union Government. The NEICC is grateful as well to the many Members of Parliament and public representatives who gave their support and attention to this matter.

The NEICC expressed its deep gratitude to church leaders, congregations and Christian communities across the North East, India and around the world for their prayers and solidarity. The Council believes that this moment calls for continued prayer, wisdom and responsible engagement.
