Itanagar: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) issued a public warning on Wednesday regarding the potential release of water from the Pare Hydro Electric Project. Officials expect the heavy monsoon rains currently affecting Arunachal Pradesh to cause a sharp rise in reservoir levels, necessitating regulated discharges to protect the dam infrastructure and maintain power generation.

Taba Gagung, the Deputy General Manager for the project, stated that if water reaches an elevation of 245.15 metres, the corporation may open radial gates to manage the volume. The company warned that extreme conditions could force immediate action, noting that in the event of flash floods or a sudden surge in inflows, all radial gates of the dam could be opened without prior notice to facilitate emergency discharge and prevent downstream hazards.

NEEPCO has instructed local authorities and community leaders to alert residents living near the reservoir and along the downstream sections of the Pare River. The advisory specifically warns the public to stay away from riverbanks and the reservoir area throughout the monsoon season. Livestock owners are also urged to keep their animals, including cattle and pigs, at a safe distance from the water to avoid accidents. The corporation emphasized that individuals ignore these safety precautions at their own risk.
