Kohima: The Union Ministry of Law and Justice appointed advocate Nchumbemo Mozhui as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court. The President finalized the appointment on September 8 after consulting with the Chief Justice of India. He acts under powers granted by the Constitution of India.
Mozhui joins Judicial Officer Helen Dawngliani from Mizoram in this new role. Both candidates earned their recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium on August 18. The government cleared the proposal exactly three weeks later.
Nagaland now claims two judges on the Gauhati High Court bench. Justice Yarenjungla Longkumer, appointed on February 17, 2025, serves as the Station Judge for the Kohima Bench. The court oversees judicial matters across Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.
The same federal notification confirmed three additional appointments for the Chhattisgarh High Court. These include judicial officers Santosh Sharma, Sushma Sawant, and Sudhir Kumar. The official order stated the appointments were made "in exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India."
