National Lok Adalat Resolves 500 Legal Disputes in Meghalaya

Shillong: The National Lok Adalat closed the books on 500 legal disputes across Meghalaya on September 12. Officials recovered Rs 2.97 crore through these settlements. The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority confirmed the final figure reached Rs 2,97,04,609 in a press release issued this Saturday.

Courts took up 834 total cases during the event. This tally included 564 pre-litigation files and 270 pending court matters. The event operated under the National Legal Services Authority, spreading the effort from the High Court of Meghalaya into every district across the state.

Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere, acting as Patron-in-Chief of the state authority, guided the operation. Justice H.S. Thangkhiew supervised the proceedings alongside Justice W. Diengdoh, who chairs the High Court Legal Services Committee. The legal body aims to provide an alternative mechanism for dispute resolution, specifically "helping reduce the burden of pending litigation."
