Nagaon Medical College Professor Arrested Over Bribery Allegations

Guwahati: Nagaon Police have arrested Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha, the head of the Forensic Medicine Department at Nagaon Medical College and Hospital, on charges of bribery. Authorities intercepted the professor in Jagiroad as part of a corruption investigation involving the manipulation of post-mortem examination reports.

The investigation began after a family filed a formal complaint with the Nagaon District Commissioner. They accused medical college officials of demanding money to alter post-mortem documentation following the tragic death of their son in an accident. In response to these claims, the district administration launched a covert operation to verify the misconduct.

Reports indicate that officials successfully captured the alleged bribe exchange on a hidden camera, providing critical evidence for the ongoing case. According to those familiar with the situation, the footage is believed to have "played a crucial role in the investigation."

Police are now widening their scope to determine the extent of the malpractice at the facility. Sources close to the investigation suggest that several other senior officials and staff members may face questioning soon. This incident has sparked significant concern regarding the integrity of medico-legal procedures, as these reports serve as essential evidence in criminal and legal proceedings.
