Nagaland SEC Sets Voter Identification Rules for Upcoming Municipal Polls

Kohima: The State Election Commission of Nagaland has released official guidelines for voter identification ahead of the municipal elections scheduled for June 16, 2026. The upcoming polls will affect specific wards in three different town councils: Ward 11 at Chümoukedima, Ward 8 at Wokha, and Ward 9 at Atoizu.

Under the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023, voters must provide valid proof of identity to cast their ballots. Acceptable documents include an Indian Passport, driving license, Aadhaar card, or a service identity card. Authorities will also accept a bank or post office passbook containing a photograph, a PAN card, a pension document with a photo, or an Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate issued by a Deputy Commissioner or Additional Deputy Commissioner.

The Commission maintains a strict policy regarding these requirements. The SEC notified that "no elector will be allowed to vote unless they produce one of the prescribed documents."
