Nagaland Rolls Out New Federal Rural Employment Scheme

Kohima: Nagaland joined a nationwide rollout of the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission on July 2. The program replaces the aging 2005 framework with a fresh mandate for village development. It started across rural India on July 1.

The Act promises more work. It pushes statutory employment guarantees from 100 days to 125 days for every eligible household. The government also set a national floor for wages. No worker will earn less than 300 rupees a day. The national average wage climbed more than 10 percent to roughly 327 rupees.

Thavaseelan K, Commissioner and Secretary for Rural Development, spoke at the Kohima launch. He noted the state must blend local traditions with new tech to build better market access. He stated, “This launch marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods and realize the vision of a Viksit Bharat through empowered villages, resilient communities, and sustainable economic growth.”

The program relies on digital oversight. Officials will use GIS mapping and geo-tagging to track public assets. Real-time data collection via mobile apps aims to keep the process transparent. Village councils and local boards will lead the planning to ensure the work hits home.

The scheme targets four main areas. It focuses on water security, road connectivity, storage facilities, and climate resilience. State RD Director M Mongna Konyak urged officials to follow federal rules. She reminded stakeholders that local success requires dedication to ensure benefits reach every household in need.
