Kohima: A new cultural initiative dedicated to preserving the heritage of indigenous communities was officially inaugurated in Kohima on May 7. The Nagaland Indigenous Tribes Cultural Resource Centre aims to document and promote the diverse traditions of the state while serving as a vital hub for research, learning, and cultural exchange.
During the opening ceremony, K Konngam Konyak highlighted that the facility represents a forward-looking vision for the region. By providing a space where cultural practices can be nurtured, the centre ensures that these traditions are successfully passed on to future generations. The design features dedicated spaces for all 16 of the state's officially recognised tribes, reflecting the cultural diversity that serves as Nagaland's greatest strength.
Officials including Bodeno S Colo described the opening as a milestone for the preservation and celebration of local identity. The project was developed with a budget of Rs 12.83 crore, financed through a joint partnership between the state government and the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources. Leaders expressed their hope that the centre will function as a knowledge hub where tradition and innovation coexist to protect Nagaland's cultural legacy for years to come.
