Kohima: Field trainers across Dimapur and Phek started a three-day training program on May 27 to prepare for the upcoming 2027 Census of India. The sessions cover officials from Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Peren, Mon, Phek, Meluri, and Kiphire districts.

During the inaugural session in Dimapur, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Dr. Tinojongshi Chang emphasized the necessity of accuracy and coordination. He described the census as a massive administrative effort conducted under the Census Rules of 1990. He urged all officials to approach their responsibilities with professionalism and dedication.

The 2027 Census will introduce a digital shift by utilizing mobile applications, real-time monitoring, and Artificial Intelligence for data collection. The house listing phase is slated for July 2026, while population enumeration will follow in February 2027. Officials will also provide a self-enumeration window starting in mid-June 2026.

Training modules include the legal framework of the census, operational procedures, and technical proficiency with the HLO mobile application. Participants will also receive instruction on data security, household interaction techniques, and handling sensitive situations in the field. The program concludes with practical demonstrations and simulations to ensure enumerators and supervisors are fully equipped for the national exercise.
