Kohima: Nagaland has officially kicked off the self-enumeration phase for Census 2027, marking the start of a major data collection effort across the state. Kenie Miachieo, the Director of Census Operations for Nagaland, cautioned residents on Wednesday that providing inaccurate information is a punishable offense under the Census Act of 1948.

Addressing reporters at the Kohima Press Club, Miachieo emphasized the importance of public cooperation. He expressed confidence that local support from community organizations and village authorities will ensure the reliability of the collected data. The state has deployed 6,134 enumerators and supervisors to manage the census exercise.

Census 2027 introduces several digital initiatives to streamline the process. Officials are using a dedicated mobile application for data collection and a web-based portal to monitor management activities. Additionally, house listing blocks will be established through a new web-mapping application.

Miachieo noted that all individual data remains strictly confidential under Section 15 of the Census Act. Regarding the project timeline, he said, "The self-enumeration period is scheduled from June 16 to June 30, while the house listing and housing census will be conducted from July 1 to July 30."
