Kohima: Nagaland officials are cracking down on public insults directed at medical practitioners. The Board of Homoeopathy System of Medicine issued a stern warning to media outlets, healthcare organizations, and the general public. Stop the disparaging remarks. The Board demands an immediate halt to labels like "quack" when referring to registered professionals.
This move follows a June 8, 2026, circular from the Board of Ethics and Registration for Homoeopathy. It underscores that homoeopathy remains a legally recognized system of medicine under the National Commission for Homoeopathy Act, 2020. Sections 33 and 34 of this law grant those on the National or State Register the full legal right to practice.
Deputy director and registrar Dr. T. Bendangtula emphasized that misleading or defamatory claims appearing in print, digital, or social media carry real consequences. The Commission warned that such attacks damage professional reputations and could trigger legal action. Stakeholders should pursue formal complaints through regulatory or disciplinary channels rather than casting broad, unsubstantiated allegations against the entire profession. Responsible communication is now the standard.
