Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav recently held a series of high-level meetings at Lok Bhavan to evaluate the state’s welfare outreach and disaster management protocols. During his review with the Social Welfare Department, the Governor emphasized the necessity of improving access to government benefits. He specifically proposed the organization of block and village level camps, coordinated with the Health and Family Welfare Department, to streamline the issuance of disability certificates for those in need.
The discussion also encompassed the progress of flagship initiatives from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, such as Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, alongside Mission Vatsalya and Mission Shakti. These programs aim to bolster nutrition, women's empowerment, and child protection. The Governor called for stronger implementation and increased public awareness while acknowledging the ongoing work of Child Welfare Committees and Juvenile Justice Boards.
In a separate session dedicated to climate resilience, the Governor reviewed Nagaland’s monsoon preparedness. Officials noted that while the state is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall, risks such as landslides, flash floods, and erratic weather patterns persist. The Public Works Department confirmed that key highways are under constant surveillance, with alternative routes prepared to ensure continuous connectivity.
District administrations, including Kohima, have established task forces to manage traffic, medical emergencies, and the supply of essential commodities. Governor Yadav urged all departments to maintain high levels of vigilance, prioritize rapid emergency responses, and improve the dissemination of information to the public to mitigate potential disruptions throughout the monsoon season.
