Nagaland Departments Partner with Mother’s Craft to Boost Women Artisans

Kohima: The Nagaland Department of Women Resource Development, the Department of Industries and Commerce, and the collective Mother’s Craft signed a memorandum of understanding on Friday to promote and market artisan goods across the state. This partnership aims to build sustainable livelihoods for women trained under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme by providing institutional support and direct access to retail platforms like Myki.

The collaboration focuses on strengthening the entire value chain for handmade goods through coordinated production, branding, and marketing strategies. Officials noted that the alignment between the textile sectors of the Industries Department and the WRD is essential for fostering the growth of women-led enterprises.

Vilone Sakhrie, the Director of Women Resource Development, welcomed the deal and described the initiative as an "important step towards supporting women entrepreneurs and artisans through improved market access and institutional backing."

Mother’s Craft, a group of 12 artisans and homemakers founded in July 2024, serves as a standout success story for the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. Specializing in handcrafted crochet dolls and toys, the group has already established a footprint at major events like the Hornbill Festival and Delhi Haat, with products reaching customers in cities including Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Chennai.

By integrating these products into the Myki retail network, the state aims to move beyond basic skill development. This new agreement provides the necessary infrastructure to ensure that local craftsmanship translates into long-term economic stability for women entrepreneurs in Nagaland.
