Imphal: The Naga People’s Union Imphal has submitted a formal seven-point ultimatum to the Chief Minister of Manipur. This demand follows a peaceful protest rally in Imphal, where participants marched from the Tribal Market to the Chief Minister’s office to call for the immediate rescue of abducted civilians.

The union claims that twenty Naga civilians were taken hostage on May 13 near Leilon Vaiphei village by armed groups operating under the Suspension of Operation agreement. While fourteen women were released on May 15, six men remain in captivity. The union alleges that the Chief of Leilon Vaiphei village and local authorities colluded in the abduction.

The memorandum demands the immediate arrest and prosecution of the armed perpetrators and the village officials involved. The union also seeks justice for several individuals killed or injured in recent ambushes, including Wilson Thanga Chiru, SW Chinaoshang, and Yaruingam Vashum.

A key point of the ultimatum calls for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen from the Council of Ministers. The union claims her husband, who leads the Kuki National Front-Presidential, is responsible for the ongoing detention of the Naga civilians. The group also urges the government to end the Suspension of Operation agreement and deport Kuki refugees from the region.
