Imphal: Naga civil society organisations are maintaining a day and night economic blockade along National Highway-2 at Namdilong. The protest aims to pressure authorities into securing the safe release of six Naga men allegedly kidnapped by suspected armed Kuki militants on May 13.
The blockade disrupts a vital transport corridor connecting Manipur to Nagaland and other regions. While security forces are monitoring the area, the demonstration has remained peaceful but shows no sign of ending. The six men were taken from Leilon Vaiphei village in the Kangpokpi district, and they remain missing despite earlier releases of other captives.
Protesters expressed deep frustration with the government, accusing officials of failing to track the victims or punish those responsible. Naga groups have submitted multiple memoranda and ultimatums to the administration, warning that they will continue the protest until their demands are addressed. Regarding the government's response, the Manipur High Court recently directed the state to submit an Action Taken Report on the investigation. Local organisations maintain that the state and central governments must intervene immediately, stating: "Naga organisations have warned that the agitation may intensify if the abducted men are not released at the earliest."
As of now, there has been no official update on the whereabouts of the hostages. Protesters have vowed to sustain their presence on the highway until a breakthrough occurs.
