Naga and Meitei Groups Join Forces to Demand Justice in Manipur

Imphal: Naga and Meitei groups set aside deep divides to stage a massive sit-in at Imphal's Khwairamband Ima Market. They want the government to break its silence. Both hill and valley communities feel abandoned by State and Central authorities. They are sick of the bloodshed.

Protesters want the Manipur Government to call a Special Assembly Session immediately. They demand an end to the Suspension of Operations agreements with Kuki armed groups. They also want the release of arrested village volunteers. The government has failed to provide answers, according to the demonstrators.

Sujata Thokchom, convenor of Imagi Meira, slammed the lack of accountability for the murder of six Naga civilians. Those bodies remain in the morgue over a month after the killings. Despite admissions of guilt from Kuki factions, the police have made no arrests. She warned, "justice must be delivered equally for Naga and Meitei civilians who have lost their lives since the outbreak of the conflict."

Activists claim the government picks favorites. They allege leaders act fast for some victims but ignore others. The joint rally serves as a final warning. People want action, not more empty promises. If officials keep hiding, the voters will remember at the ballot box.
