Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh stated that state and central authorities are working to contain recent violence in the region's hill districts. Speaking at a memorial service for journalist Okram Homendro Singh in Imphal, the senior BJP leader emphasized that officials are monitoring the situation and deploying necessary resources to maintain order.
Biren Singh confirmed that central security forces, previously reassigned for election duties elsewhere, have returned to Manipur to strengthen the government's response. He stressed that communication remains the primary path forward for reconciliation. Regarding the instability, he said, "The unfolding incidents of violence in the hill districts over the past few months are unfortunate. Any conflict can be resolved through dialogue, and the government is doing its best to bring the situation under control."
The former chief minister also addressed public concerns regarding the National Register of Citizens and illegal immigration. He acknowledged that civil society organizations have raised valid points and suggested that the state must collaborate with these groups to find practical solutions. The event was organized by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union and the Editors’ Guild Manipur to honor the legacy of Homendro Singh, who Biren Singh described as a dedicated and respected figure in the media community.
