Kohima: The Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has issued an official advisory following confirmed cases of African Swine Fever within the Tuli subdivision. The virus was identified in Chungtia village, Kangtsungyimsen village, and Shitikolak Ward. Local authorities have urged residents to avoid purchasing or consuming pork from these affected locations and surrounding regions to help curb the spread of the disease.
The Veterinary Department is now maintaining strict surveillance over the infected zones. New regulations for the import of pigs have also been established to protect the district. All animal consignments entering the region must undergo mandatory testing. Furthermore, pigs held in transit at stockyards within the Tuli subdivision must be moved within 24 hours, and they must undergo additional testing before being transported to neighboring areas.
Officials have instructed the Veterinary Department to increase testing and oversight along border areas. The public is encouraged to stay alert and report any sudden pig deaths or unusual animal behavior to the Office of the Chief Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer. Residents may contact Dr. Imtilong Longkumer, a Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, at 9500807407 to report suspected cases.
