MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan Leads Porompat Tree Planting Drive

Imphal: MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan spearheaded the Tree Plantation Drive 1.5 at the Star Sporting Club Ground in Porompat this Sunday. The event gathered local residents, community groups, and stakeholders for a coordinated push toward environmental health. The effort falls under the Ningol Van programme, a state initiative launched by the Manipur government on March 21, 2026, to celebrate the International Day of Forests.

The programme puts women, known as Ningols, at the heart of conservation efforts across all 16 districts of Manipur. Officials hope the project will bolster environmental protection while creating sustainable livelihoods. Hassan praised the local women for their commitment to the land. He noted, "Women in Manipur have historically played an important role in social and economic activities and have also contributed significantly to forest conservation and environmental protection."

Hassan demanded consistent follow-up from the community to ensure the saplings survive. He wants the locals to nurture these plants until they reach maturity. Central Forest Division DFO Vikram Suresh Nadhe, an IFS officer, joined the event to back the collaboration between his department and the public. He echoed the importance of the female role in shielding natural resources.

Other key figures on the ground included Prof. (Dr.) Th. Asha Sinha, Director of Research and Development at MIU and President of the Association of MSAP Alumni, Manipur. The team of Porompat Ningol Van members and various dignitaries worked alongside residents to place the new trees into the ground.
