Shillong: Mission Nethralaya cleared a massive hurdle this week. The organization completed 1.5 lakh eye and vision screenings across Meghalaya and surrounding border zones. They hit the mark by targeting remote communities that usually go without basic medical help.
Leadership on the ground includes Director Dr. SP Saikia, Medical Director Dr. V. Surong, and Course Director Dr. F. Rapthap. They tracked down refractive errors in children, adults, and the elderly. The team provided medical advice and direct referrals for those needing further care.
Kids get priority. The staff aims to catch vision issues early so classroom performance does not slip. Management stated, "The goal of the mission is to ensure that no child struggles in school due to undetected vision issues and that no individual is deprived of basic eye care because of financial or geographical limitations."
The mission delivers more than just tests. They handed out free medicines and spectacles to eligible locals. Older patients with presbyopia received reading glasses. The crew also coordinated surgical procedures to fix advanced eye conditions for those stuck behind financial or physical barriers.
