Kohima: A two-day training program for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Dimapur and Peren districts commenced on Monday at the Grand Maspel Hotel in Dimapur. The event, part of a national initiative under the Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya district program, aims to enlighten party members and elected representatives about the core ideology and history of the organization.
Addressing the assembly, Minister of Public Health and Engineering Department, Jacob Zhimomi, noted that the BJP has grown into the world's largest political party, boasting 14 crore members and surpassing the membership of the Chinese Communist Party. Zhimomi acknowledged that many individuals in Nagaland joined the party without a deep understanding of its foundations. Comparing the process to an arranged marriage, he emphasized that this workshop serves to ground all members, from high-ranking officials to the newest recruits, in the party's national perspective.
Zhimomi reiterated that the party’s central principle is defined by the hierarchy of Nation First, Party Second, and Individual Last. He explained that personal interests must remain subordinate to national goals, noting that leadership positions should be earned through dedication and hard work rather than rapid advancement. The minister traced the party's roots back to the 1951 founding of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh by Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Deendayal Upadhyaya, noting that these principles are essential to achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047.
The minister also addressed the unique cultural context of Nagaland, affirming that despite the state's predominantly Christian population, there remains a strong commitment to central development goals and economic progress. He urged members to work collectively to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Advisor H. Sethrongkyu Sangtam added that the organization's true strength relies on the sincerity of its karyakartas, who are expected to serve the public selflessly while maintaining unity and discipline. The opening session was chaired by Dimapur district general secretary Yanpothung Humtsoe, with an invocation provided by secretary Di.
