Guwahati: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika blasted the cancellation of the Japanese Prime Minister's July 1 visit to the state. He claimed the shift represents a win for opponents of regional progress. Hazarika voiced his frustration at a BJP event in Morigaon district on June 23.
The minister spoke after welcoming new minority community members into the party. He argued that the lost visit hurts local investment and economic growth. Officials had spent weeks prepping for the diplomat's arrival. The state government remains disappointed by the sudden change.
Hazarika pointed the finger at unidentified agitators. "Anarchic forces do not want Assam's development. It is extremely unfortunate," he said. He did not provide evidence or name specific groups behind the disruption.
