Shillong: The Meghalaya State Commission for Women takes action this Thursday. Backed by the National Commission for Women, the group hosts a one-day consultation regarding the Maternity Benefit Act of 1961 and the state rules from 1965. Doors open at 10:30 am at the State Convention Centre.
Officials plan to pick apart the current laws. They intend to spot specific hurdles blocking proper execution. The commission seeks recommendations to tighten maternity protections for employees across the region. As the commission stated, the initiative is “intended to ensure the rights of women are safeguarded in the workplace through more effective implementation of the rules.”
